The 7th Annual Alberta GSA Conference will be held on Saturday November 17th, 2018, at Jasper Place High School on Treaty 6 land in Amiskwaciy Waskahikan (Edmonton) Alberta.

DETAILS
The conference aims to provide support for Alberta K-12 students and teachers in the formation and maintenance of GSAs/QSAs. There will be specialized workshops specific for students and teachers which will address a variety of topics. There will also be a French workshop available each block, thanks to our partners at Francophonie Jeunesse de l’Alberta!

Lunch will be provided, during which there will be a resource fair.

In October, those who have tickets will receive an email regarding the workshop schedule and will then be able to register for workshops. Once you get your tickets keep an eye on your email so you can sign up and create your schedule!

Please be aware that this conference is only for students and teachers (or other school staff supporting a GSA).

ACCESSIBILITY
The entire conference takes place on the 1st floor with the exception of the cafeteria which is down a flight of stairs next to an elevator. Washrooms will be all-gender with stalls and are wheelchair accessible. An ASL Interpreter will be available for the keynote presentation as well as other workshops as needed.

TRAVEL BURSARIES
With huge help from the Edmonton Pride Festival Society and the Northlands LGBTQ2S+ Rural Alberta Youth Grant, we are able to supply travel bursaries for participants! There are a limited number available, however each bursary is for a maximum of $500 to cover the cost of travel for schools. If you have multiple schools in your area it is best to all travel together to save on costs. This will help us cover more travel costs for other schools! To apply please email albertaGSAnetwork@gmail.com using the subject “Travel Bursary Application”.

If you’re from a school in Calgary & area, please contact Hilary Mutch (hmutch@centreforsexuality.ca) as she will be organizing bus trips from areas in Calgary to the conference.

La 7e édition du Alberta Gender & Sexual Orientation Alliance (GSA) Conference prendra place sur les territoires du traité n° 6 de Amiskwaciy Wskahikan, aussi connu sous le nom d’Edmonton, le samedi 17 novembre 2018 à l’école secondaire Jasper Place.

DÉTAILS
La conférence a pour but de fournir un soutien aux élèves et aux enseignants de la maternelle à la 12e année dans la mise sur pied et le bon déroulement d’une alliance gaie-hétéro/allosexuelle-hétérosexuelle (AGH-AAH). Il y aura des ateliers spécialisés qui seront spécifiques pour les étudiants et les enseignants abordant une variété de sujets.

Tous ceux qui seront inscrits par la octobre recevront un courriel avec l’horaire, et pourront s’inscrire aux ateliers qui les intéressent.

Le déjeuner sera fourni, au cours de laquelle il y aura une foire de ressources.

PARTICIPANTS
Cet événement est seulement ouvert aux élèves et les enseignants ou autres membres du personnel qui appuient les AGH/AAH.

TRANSPORT
Il y a un nombre limité de bourses de transport pour les écoles voyageant à Edmonton. Nous offrons jusqu’à 500$. Les bourses seront distribuées sur la base du premier arrivé, premier servi. Si vous êtes intéressés, veuillez envoyer un courriel à albertaGSAnetwork@gmail.com avec le sujet: “Travel Bursary Application”. S’il y a plusieurs écoles dans votre région qui veulent venir à la conférence, il serait préférable de voyager ensemble. De cette façon, nous pourrons aider à couvrir les frais de transport pour les autres écoles !

Pour les écoles voyageant de Calgary et regions proches, envoyer un courriel à Hilary Mutch (hmutch@centreforsexuality.ca) pour être inclus dans le voyage en bus de Calgary.

ALBERTA GSA CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Doors open at 9:00am and the conference ends at 4:10pm. Bring a digital (phone) or physical printed copy of your ticket with the QR code visible to make registration go faster!

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Make sure you sign-up for the workshop types that fit who you are! Workshops are divided by different grades, and whether they are for just students, just teachers, or both. Check the workshop audience in the description when you sign up! There will also be a French workshop available each block, thanks to our partners at Francophonie Jeunesse de l’Alberta! Workshop attendees who have registered for workshops will be given priority if the workshop is full.

Almost all workshops in Block 1 will repeat again in Block 2. Block 3 will be activity & arts-based!
BLOCK 1: 11:10am – 12:20pm
BLOCK 2: 1:35pm – 2:45pm
BLOCK 3: 3:00pm – 4:10pm

CHILL ZONE & SMUDGE SPACE
The Chill Zone will be a quiet drop-in room available to hangout, do crafts, get tarot readings, and/or speak with a counselor if needed. Located in the STAR Program room (next to Room 183) the Chill Zone will be available during Block 1, 2, and 3.

The Smudge Space will be a drop-in gathering space and/or sharing circle where folks will be able to smudge and come together in community. Located in Room 128, the Smudge Space will be available during Block 1 and 2.

There may be smudging in certain workshops, if you have severe allergies to smoke please inform the Workshop Ambassador so that a dry smudge can be performed instead.
